NEWS: The Eumenida Virtual Open 2025 will begin on 17 September, coinciding with the irl Chengdu and Hangzhou tournaments in China.  The event is being hosted by –Eunomia as part of Refugia’s commemoration of The Eumenida Pact.

The Pact, signed earlier this year (2025), is a treaty of friendship and cooperation between Refugia’s member states.  It commits nations to peace, mutual respect and collaboration, providing for the free movement of people and goods, shared cultural initiatives and mutual defence.  It is regarded by its signatories as one of the region’s most important achievements.

Organisers say the tournament is designed to highlight those same values of unity and cooperation while offering a new way for nations to engage in friendly competition.  All nations in NationStates are invited to participate, including Refugia’s members and partner regions.

The tournament will work by each nation entering a team of five tennis players selected from the ATP’s top 100, using a budget of 10,000 points.  Players have been assigned a value based on their ranking — Jannik Sinner at 3,000 points and Andrey Rublev at 2,300, for example.  Teams cannot include more than one player from the same country, requiring participants to balance star players with lower-rated options.

Points will be awarded based on the real-world performance of players in tournaments. Five points will be given for a first-round appearance, rising to 15 for the round of 16, 30 for the quarterfinals, 50 for the semifinals, 75 for the final, and 100 for the champion.

In a telegram announcing the event, –Eunomia described it as “not just a sporting event; it is a tribute to unity, peace, and progress.” The Eumenida Pact was called Refugia’s “most cherished legacy,” with the tournament positioned as a way to bring people together through sport.

Nations interested in taking part are encouraged to contact –Eunomia, for details on registration and rules.
