NEWS: Z-Day has arrived with players across NationStates once again facing zombie outbreaks wreaking havoc in their nations.  This year marks the 13th Z-Day, an annual zombie-themed event coinciding with Halloween.  Unlike the biannual N-Day events, Z-Day has no opt-out mechanism, meaning all nations are affected by the zombie hoardes.

About Z-Day

Z-Day is a 36 hour event 'where every nation gets infected with zombies, who try to overwhelm and consume the population, turning them to zombies and eventualy, kill them for good.'  Players are presented with an issue which provides 3 options to respond to the zombie hoards.  The first option is 'exterminate zombies' which mobilises the nation's defence forces to eliminate the zombies.  The second option is 'research a cure' where the nation's scientist develop a cure, enabling cure missles to be launched to other players to de-zombify their population.  The third option is 'embrace zombies' allowing the player to launch hordes at other nations to increase the rate of zombie infection.

The game uses several measures to rank regions, often leading regions to take official stances and coordinate efforts to maximise specific outcomes.  In 2023, the leading regions for each measure were:

- Most survivors & no zombies: Isolation

- Most survivors & no quarantine: Chicken Overlords

- Most survivors: Chicken Overlords

- Most zombies: Chicken Overlords

- Most dead: The Rejected Realms

As of 06:30 UTC 31st October 2024, the NationStates universe reported over 1,421,349 billion zombies, 157,565 billion survivors and 174,914 billion dead.  The leading regions for each measure are:
