NEWS: The Union of Christian Nations (UCN), the second-largest Christian region on NationStates, has elected Gideon as its new President, succeeding Helmond after nearly a year in office.  Known for its denominational diversity, inclusive culture and emphasis on multilateral cooperation, the UCN is a prominent player among NationStates' religious-themed regions.

The election was held between Gideon, the region's World Assembly Delegate who has previously served as Speaker and President for one (1) term and Austrin, the current Vice President and Secretary of Home Affairs.

The final results were Gideon with 81.25% (13 votes) and Austrin with 18.75% (3 votes).

UCN presidential elections use a two-round system.  Registered parties may nominate candidates, while independents must secure the backing of at least five electors to qualify.  Gideon represented the Plural Front Party, a big-tent catch-all party, and received endorsements from the newly founded right-wing Traditionalist Party and the centre-left Progressive Alliance.  Austrin represented the centre-right Monarchist Movement which favours reforming the region's Governorship into a constitutional monarchy.

There were few areas of contention in the campaign with each candidate expressing confidence in the other's ability to successfully lead the region.  Gideon, as one of his first moves as President, reappointed Austrin as Vice President, continuing the long-held tradition of UCN Presidents to appoint a Vice President from a different policial party.

Both candidates provided statements to The NationStates Times.  Gideon said:

“I am humbled by the trust placed in me. Together, under God’s guidance, we will strive for unity, justice, and peace within our region.”

Austrin said:

“Despite not winning this contest I am honoured by the opportunity to once more serve my region and Vice President and hope to work with everyone within the region to ensure harmony and tranquility”

Gideon will serve as the 5th President of the Union of Christian Nations for a 6 month term ending on 30 November 2025 and will be eligible to run for another term.
